Je travaille au Gouvernement fédéral dans l’édifice du Portage. J’utilise régulièrement ce guichet automatique et à ma grande surprise le choix de langues se limite effectivement au français et au chinois, pas d’anglais. Alors qu’on gouvernement fédéral nous nous afférons a offrir les services et programmes dans les deux langues officielles. Pourquoi le chinois en plein milieu de Gatineau et a une centaine de mètres de la capital nationale? La population chinoise à Gatineau est-elle plus enlevée que la population anglophone? La CIBC n’effectue pas d’analyse démographique? avant d’instaurer de nouvelles machines qui ne répondent même pas aux besoins de leurs clients. De plus leurs distributeurs sont continuellement en panne.

I stopped by the CIBC bank machine at 200 Promenade du Portage at Gatineau. To my surprise, the choice of languages was French and Chinese ONLY. I have lived in the Ottawa region for years and have never seen this demonstration of language barrier. Two interesting points come in mind is that this machine is housed in a federal government building and I as a tax payer knows that the government have spend billions of dollars to bilingualism this country. What about the federal1969 Official Languages Act? Which statutes that French and English are the two official languages of Canada.Why have this not been noticed and retified by any of the thousands of public servants that work in that building and used this machine. Is English that secondary to French that no one notices it except for me? The second issue is the bank call Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. With such a name and its history dating back to 1867, it’s surprising that it can make such a huge slip-up!!!
