Festival Japan is definately the best restaraunt in Ottawa. The staff were excellent and perform very well under pressure.Iwould eat there everyday, infact i used to!A definate 10!
Appalling food - greasy and served with sauces that tasted like they came out of a supermarket bottle. No real flavour.
I told the server that I had a severe allergy to seafood and barely received an acknowledgement from him. Luckily, I carry an Epipen and chose my food carefully - and had others to taste-test anything suspicious.
The Chef's Salad consisted of supermarket baby greens with shredded carrot and 1/8 of a tomato, accompanied by a plastic squeeze bottle of "ginger" dressing (didn't have much ginger flavour). The Steak Teriyaki was half fat and coated with store-bought sauce. Rice side dish arrived partway through the meal and was lukewarm - still the best part of the meal, though.
Others at the table ordered Shrimp Tempura and couldn't eat the five shrimp provided as they were so greasy. The Chicken Bites didn't seem to have a) much meat, b) flavour, or c) any crispness. Frozen chicken fingers would have been better. Plates were ungarnished.
The only appetizer that looked appetizing was the Sushi Combination. The person who ordered that enjoyed it - most of the other appetizers had a lot remaining on the plate when they went back to the kitchen.
Lousy service - no consistency or planning in food delivery. Some members of our party reported that the greeter couldn't figure out the reservation.
The server knocked over a drink and dripped a hot sauce onto two members of our party while serving entrees. He apologised and provided extra napkins and replaced the beverage, but the person had Coke from hip to knee. The person who had the hot stuff spilled on her wasn't hurt, but no remediation was offered - not even to cover the dry cleaning bill for her suit jacket.
A piece of Chocolate Mousse Cake came at the end of the meal to "make up" for the Coke spill (maybe the sauce spill, too?) with a handful of forks so it could be shared. Nothing appealing about the mousse cake - it was a slice of a commercial frozen cake that anyone could get at their local greasy spoon.
We all made a speedy exit from the restaurant as soon as the bill was paid - there's no ambiance or anything that would encourage anyone to linger. Thank goodness it was a company dinner - I wouldn't have paid for my meal if it was on my tab.
