Tried to sell me brake repairs on front and rear of car when car dealership inspection the day before showed only front needed repair.
On October 16, 2013 I took my 2009 Mazda 3 in for a regular maintenance at Carling Motors. This was a 48,000 km inspection even though the car had only 41,192 km on it. We drive only 8-10,000 km per year so the regular maintenance schedule based on months of use and kilometres travelled doesn't apply. Part of the 48,000 maintenance involves a careful examination of the brakes to determine if replacement pads and rotors are called for. I was informed by the service representative over the phone and again verbally when I picked up the car that it was time to replace the front pads and rotors but that, at the rate that we drive, the rear was still in good enough condition to allow for many more months of safe driving.
The price for repairing the front brakes at Carling Motors seemed high ($450 plus tax) so I decided to shop around. I checked with four brake repair shops in Ottawa (Speedy, Midas, Gary's, Frisby) and then selected Gary's Automotive because there price was fair ($330-340 plus tax), though not the lowest quoted ($300 at Speedy), they were within walking distance and most importantly, they had an A+ rating with the BBB.
I made an appointment for the morning of October 17. When I dropped off the car the desk person said that I would hear from the manager when they had a chance to inspect the vehicle. That worried me because I had already told them I only wanted the front brakes replaced. I did not tell him that it would not be necessary to call me since I had already been informed by Carling Motors what repairs were needed.
An hour later I had a call from the manager informing me that both front and rear brakes needed to be replaced. I was livid because I knew that they were trying to dupe me. Without any discussion I told him to put the wheels back on and I would come and get the car.
When I got to the shop the car was still on the hoist with all four tires off and the manager tried to convince me to come in and he would show me why they said all four sets of brakes needed to be replaced. I then informed him that the car had been inspected the day before at the authorised dealership and that I knew what they were up to. I am not an auto mechanic and I cannot tell when brakes are in need of replacement. That is why I trust the experts at the car manufacturer's dealership. He persisted in trying to get me to look at the vehicle and I lost my temper and told him I would be back in 5 minutes and to have the tires back on at that time.
When I came back the car was in the lot and he was writing up a report and holding onto my key. I told him I did not want his report and took the key and left. I told him to expect a complaint with the BBB.
Very interesting that this business is trying to run and hide by taking down reviews under it's former name. This banquet facility is the most unprofessional hall I have ever encountered! The waiting staff are rude and yelled at me on my wedding day. On top of that completely unacceptable behaviour they threw, into the trash, my wedding favours to my guests. Their co-ordinator is also unreliable and did absolutely nothing on my wedding day. My Master of Ceremony had to take over and set-up the whole hall. I suggest looking elsewhere for a wedding venue, as this location will make your day a terrible one! I got married in August, so the review above is a very recent one. I'm here to answer any questions and give advice for brides who have given The Palace a deposit and are stuck.
Gary's Automotive 1750 Bank Street I just got back home with a estimate which was over 1000$ than lowered due to me not giving them a instant yes, all of the sudden it got lowered to $999.34... No THANKS! I came in today for a cheap oil change of $19.99 which would of came up to 60$ with out my coupon which i've had. I just had my brakes and rotors done 2 years ago and not even a year ago i've changed my brake pads. I dont see any problems braking whats so ever and i dont feel my brake pads seizing at all. Yet they had the nerve to come to me and tell me i needed.... Front Pads Rotors Replaced, Front Calipers Replaced, Rear Wheel Cylinders replaced and a brake fluid flush to go with it. They told me its a 3 hour job, but i see here in my estimate labour comes up to 607.70 WOW! Dude my chevy Cavalier isnt even worth that much. So ya just to tell you, my brakes are fine and this is what i get when i get a coupon to change my oil which i shouldnt of had because the oil which i had previously in my engine was just changed almost 2 months ago and it was Castrol. Not some bottom of the barrel crap they put into my car. Its bull shit.
Watch out! For profit business run by a family who all draw salaries. Not open and honest with parents. If you want a Montessori, look for a not for profit.
Do NOT go here for extensions for the product Great Hair Lengths. I went there for about 2 years. Then I noticed that when I had them put in, they seemed much thinner. I still paid the same price for the bundles. I finally had enough because my hair began to look terrible. Went to another salon where I learned that Salon Ravello was still charging me for the 2 bundles but taking the extensions and cutting them in half. That is why my hair looked thin. Apparently owners of salons are notorious for getting their staff to rip off customers in this way. They were making 50% more on each bundle that I paid for...disgusting....and further to this...perhaps they cannot be trusted when it comes to using any products there?
I am very impress with all the extras they do and the professionalism I see. They did it all in less than 9 minutes like they promised.
I went to the bank st location for a oil change. they come out in 5 mins telling me i needed a front brake service. I had just had the front brakes done at my long time garage. They told me they did not do the job properly which I found very surpising as I had never had a problem with the excellent service I have always received there. I told Garys not to touch my brakes and to finish my oil change that I had gone there for in the first place. So I went to the dealer for a second opinion on my brakes and was told by the Dealer that there was nothing wrong with the brakes and that the job was done exactly as it should have been with proper lubrication and quality parts. To put it mildly I will NOT go back to Garys again!!
Professional and utilized his resources so well, it made it fully worth getting an agent to find me my home
This place is very over rated. We were there in a group of 8 and I can honestly say that nothing special came out of this outing. The place was dark, noisy and the food was average. My prime roast was their specialty and was only available in medium rare. That was fine with me, but the meat turn out to be drained of all its juices. It was cooked fine but it had no taste and no texture. Ottawa is lacking decent steak houses when a place like this is packed and offer food like what I experienced. Most of my friends agree with my comments.
I always have a great time there. It has become the new "girl's night out" spot, for me and my gals. The staff is very friendly and the food is quite yummy. Love, love, love all the Martini choices too. I'll definately go back again... soon!
Im really surprised at the posts below when I went to this establishment I had a great time, everyone was overly friendly if anything I found more then one person offered me something to drink while I was waiting, and I was completely satisfied with all services!
This spa is new (opened this year) and the staff is not well trained. They do relaxation massages and they dont give nails the proper cleaning. They rush threw services. In the massage room you can hear other customers talking. I wont be back.

I had purchased a deal of the day for this "spa" which included - 45 minute "hot stone massage", 45 minute facial & pedicure. I had never been to this spa before but couldnt pass up such a good deal. My boss even joined in on the deal. We bought the deal in March and tried to book any appt available within that month or summer months...but after many phone calls we could only get an appt in SEPTEMBER! When we got there we walked into one big room with 2 massage tables...(Wish they would have told me I was booking a couples massage with my boss...akward!..really made me wonder if they put strangers together?..though they did have a sheet - hospital style) The girls that worked there told us to leave our pants on?I had never had a massage that wasnt full body...but I over looked that. She then coated me with freezing cold goop and very lightly rubbed it on my back...didnt hit any pressure points or use any pressure. The whole while I could hear customers talking threw the walls and a very loud furnace or something..(not relaxing) wondering when the hot stones would come into play, when they finally came out she put a towel on my goop covered back and placed the stones on my spine. (I could barely feel the warmth of the stones) Then they left us! Left us there with stones on our backs for 15 minutes! While they cleaned the other room. Stuck there I read the massage cream..and chatted with my boss..hoping that this so called massage would get better...it didnt. I have been for many hot stone massages and this was awful! They only massaged my back, they didnt use the stones properly, they left us! After that I wondered why they didnt do the facial? But after that kind of massage...I honestly didnt want my sensitive face to be subjected to any more. When we walked out, they proceeded to tell us they thought we had bought the old deal which was for mani and pedi and massage.....which we accepted. The pedicure was awful, I question if or how the sterilize their tools. They didnt clean under my toenails or finger nails. They didnt scrub..they put polish on and that was that. What was suppost to be a 3 hour relaxing appt was reduced to an hour and a half of terrible. This was the worst spa experience I have ever had!!! I wont recomend and I would never go back...This proves if something seems to good to be true it probibly is! The package said 170$ value ....I was upset to pay 50$ plus a very good tip. Which I didnt really want to give (but they were nice at very least)
0/5 I got my hair done from there and it looked like my 10year old son bought hair dye from walmart and I let him experiment on my hair. By far the worst colour and cut I have ever received. I had to go to another salon right after I left to get it fixed it was so bad. Stick with your regular salon and stay away from this one .
AWFUL! This place tried to rip me off with their supposed "cheap oil change", and as soon as I got in the door they were trying to sell me on a brake job too! NO MEANS NO GARY! On top of this they used bottom-of-the barrel parts for my oil change and it still cost me $60. Gary ... ....!!

Great seafood! Fish was cooked perfectly and very fresh. Everything was cooked the way I ordered. Good service overall as well as very reasonable prices. I for sure will go there again
They provided us with great service; they were very fast and had great customer service. I would recommend them for anybody looking for any auto repairs.
I was really impressed with the quality of service I received. It was my first time home buying experience and she made it very easy tp understand the realestate the world.
